Clay Pebbles Clay Pebbles

Clay pebbles are a popular hydroponic medium around the world. Manufactured in Germany. They are used both for commercial production and for decorative purposes such as a top layer for pot plants. Hydroton pebbles are light in weight, do not compact and are completely reusable - they can be cleaned and sterilised after use. They are also inert, pH neutral and contain no nutrients. Because the pellets drain freely and don't hold excessive water, they provide good oxygen levels around the root zone and are particularly suitable for flood and drain systems. In drip irrigation, the pellets can be mixed with a medium with better capillary action, so the feed is dissipated broadly through, to prevent salt build-up.

Perlite Perlite

Perlite is produced from a volcanic alumino-silicate rock, which is first crushed and then heated to a temperature slightly below 1000°C. At this temperature the water and gas (which is trapped) vaporises to expand the particles rather like popcorn, producing very light aerated white mineral foam.

The rough external surface of the granules is mainly responsible for the considerable capillary attraction which perlite has for water. This makes perlite ideal for wick or pot systems provided a reservoir of nutrient solution is maintained at all times. Great for aerating soil mixtures.

Comes in 100L bags.

Vermiculite Vermiculite

Vermiculite, like perlite is an alumino-silicate material. Vermiculite has a high cation exchange capacity. This means that even after over-watering (which will cause many mediums to lose nearly all their nutrient content) vermiculite will, when drained, hold onto some nutrient that will be released back into solution with the next watering. It is normally added at between 5-50% by volume.

The other use of vermiculite is as a seed covering. This practice utilises the material’s extreme light weight and its capacity for providing a high humidity around the seed. At the same time it is not so dense as to cut out all light to the seeds.

Comes in 100L bags.

Vintage Bat Guano Vintage Bat Guano

Bat Guano has long been known as a fantastic source of nutrition for soil-grown plants, offering a potent mixture of elements for enhanced plant health, root development and flowering. To use Bat Guano, you simply sprinkle it around the top of your pots and water it through - this obviously delays the immediate impact that you may expect from a flowering booster, but believe us when we say that the wait is worth it! The high organic phosphorous content of the Guano creates a huge increase in flower and fruit production both in terms of yield and quality and without having to resort to a mineral based booster. Highly recommended when growing in soil.
